Samantha Thornhill is an oracle poet, author, and healing facilitator whose work bridges literature, spirit, and community. Born in Trinidad & Tobago to a family of educators, she has carried the legacy of storytelling across continents—from her childhood migration to the U.S., to her formative years as a poet in Florida, and later as a professor of poetry at The Juilliard School in New York City, where she taught actors for a decade.
A graduate of Florida State University and the University of Virginia’s MFA program in poetry, Samantha sharpened her voice in the Black poetry movement, from Cave Canem to slam stages nationwide, before becoming an international performer—sharing her verses in South Africa, Hungary, Bermuda, and beyond. She co-founded Poets in Unexpected Places (Pop Up Poets), bringing spontaneous poetry into subways, laundromats, and museums, an endeavor featured in The New York Times.
As an author, Samantha has published 14 children’s books and her debut poetry collection, The Animated Universe (Peepal Tree Press, 2022). She is also the creator of The Black Unicorn Journal of Passions, a guided journal designed to spark creativity and self-discovery.
Her spiritual path deepened through oracle work and journaling, weaving intuition into her literary practice. Today, Samantha lives in Costa Rica with her two young sons, serving the global community with poetry, children’s literature, oracle readings, and transformative journaling experiences.
